We are making good progress in the request of EU funds 7 September 2007
The report compiled by the European Commission at the end of August – which considers the state of affairs valid at the end of June – reinforces that Hungary is continuing to make good progress as regards the use made of EU development funds.
From amongst the new member states, Hungary is still ranked third; however the gap between the members of the leading pack has nevertheless narrowed. Hungary has so far committed 61% of the development resources available for the 2004-2006 period from the European Commission, and has consequently overtaken Holland (58%), which member state is by and large eligible to spend a similar rate of funding, and is approaching Greece in terms of the use made of funding (64%). It is important to stress that these member states managed to achieve this throughout a 6-year period, which is theoretically a great advantage - due to long processing periods and programme launching – as regards the use of development funding.
The report presents how commitment of funds has considerably accelerated in the new member states, primarily in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, in relation to the previous quarter. According to our expectations, it will be possible to maintain this progress in the future as well.
