Another 556 enterprises have been approved 34.73 billion HUF funding, which ensures the implementation of investments with a total value of 140 billion HUF11 October 2007

Hungarian enterprises have had the opportunity to submit applications within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan since 1 March this year. Over 3000 applications have been submitted over the course of the past 7 months, out of which over 1900 enterprises have been approved 39 billion HUF in funding, following a rigorous, but nevertheless fair procedure. According to estimates, this will generate investments of 150 billion HUF in the national economy. As a basis for comparison: during the 2004-2006 period of the National Development Plan, approximately 8000 enterprises received 52 billion HUF in funding.

In March, 556 small and medium size enterprises were approved a rate of EU funding of 34.73 billion HUF within the framework of calls for applications targeting small and medium size enterprises. These enterprises will implement investments of 140 billion HUF with the help of this funding. This means that every single EU Forint mobilises 4 Hungarian private Forints.

From amongst approved applications, many leading and highly efficient machine industry companies were approved funding. Moreover, key companies in terms of economic growth operating in the building industry and the chemical industry also applied successfully. It comes as no surprise that an exceptionally high number of enterprises were approved funding in the traditionally highly developed Győr-Moson-Sopron and Fejér counties. However, the way that a considerably high number of enterprises located in the less developed regions of Borsod and Csongárd counties were also approved funding is a good sign and new experience. According to all indications, the calls for applications equally mobilised economic players operating in the less developed regions.

The rate of funding is equivalent to 30% of total eligible costs.

One of the most serious problems of the Hungarian economy is that corporate enterprises that have set up sites in the country are not sufficiently integrated and have weak connections with Hungarian suppliers. Smaller size Hungarian enterprises need to implement a considerable degree of modernisation to become suppliers or strengthen their supplier status. The other call for applications of the economic development operational programme addresses this particular problem by targeting income generation increase in export-oriented or supplier enterprises. Having increased the framework to two times its original rate, 98 of the 120 registered applications have been approved EU funding equivalent to 16 billion HUF in value and ranging from 50 million HUF to 500 million HUF per application.

EU resources must concurrently underpin the impetus of economic growth and territorial equalization. Supporting investments implemented by small and medium size enterprises that create jobs in less favoured micro-regions satisfies both objectives. Within the framework of this particular tender scheme, 116 enterprises will receive non-reimbursable assistance equivalent to approximately 3 billion HUF, which covers 40% of eligible costs, to support their investment projects, consequently linking company development with the progress of the region.

Naturally, large enterprises operating in the settlements of less-favoured areas were not left out of development opportunities. 62 companies satisfied conditions and were approved a total EU funding of 8.7 billion HUF for implementing their plans.

Enterprises applied for over 4 billion HUF funding within the framework of the complex technology development call for applications of the Central Hungary Operational Programme targeting SMEs, out of which 64 applicants have received a share of funding of 1.6 billion HUF of the increased framework.
