Modern civil air traffic control – Püspökladány radar station has been handed over30 October 2007
Gordon Bajnai, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Gábor Kende, executive director of Transport Development Integrated Intermediate Body and László Kiss, CEO of HunagroControl jointly handed over the modernised Püspökladány radar station today.
The new radars enable the
transmission of a higher volume of data between aeroplanes and traffic control
centres, consequently reducing the workloads of air traffic controllers. The
project implemented from funding granted by the European Union Cohesion Fund
covers the replacement of air traffic control software and electronic parts.
The development that has just been handed over is a part of a project
consisting of 5 components, which covers the full modernisation of the entire
technological background of civil air traffic control. Beyond Püspökladány, the
radar station located at Köröshegy, as well as the air traffic control centre
at Ferihegy Airport are the other development sites. The total value of the
projects is 40 million EUR; approximately half of the funding needs, i.e.
nearly 20 million HUF, was covered by EU funding. Revenue generated by
HungaroControl ensured the other half of the financial coverage of the
investment.
