New municipal roads in Central Transdanubia12 April 2008

The first contracts approved within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan were signed on 9 April at the Central Transdanubia Regional Development Agency.

The Central Transdanubia Regional Development Agency has announced calls making nearly 1.8 billion HUF non-reimbursable funding available this year and next year for the renewal and development of municipal roads under the regional operational programme implemented within the framework of NHDP. When evaluating the projects, 70% of the costs of which are covered by EU funding, beyond the 30% own funds needed, Mr Béla Papp, president of the Development Council highlighted that it is no mere coincidence that funding has been approved in this particular area first, since local authorities have equally recognised that ensuring convenient transport is of fundamental importance.

69 local governments submitted applications requesting nearly 4 billion HUF. The assessment committee approved 18 of these projects; in addition to the 8 projects in which case contracting has just taken place, contracting will soon take place in the case of the other 10 projects. Beyond road construction, it is also possible to spend the funding on building feeder roads, creating community transport nodes and facilitating the fastest possible development of these. Applicants that have just been approved funding are the first applicants to have compiled quality tender documentation on the basis of which investments could be launched immediately after contracting.

In accordance with the decision made by the Regional Development Council, in Fejér County Mezőszilas has been approved funding of 35 million HUF in value, Mór has been approved 93.9 million HUF and Sárosd has been approved 98.4 million HUF for the development of the municipal road network. In Komárom-Esztergom County, 49 million HUF has been earmarked for launching investments in Héreg, 31.8 million HUF has been earmarked for Kocs and 36.2 million HUF has been earmarked for Mocsa. In Veszprém County, the local government of Ajka has been approved funding of 180 million HUF in value, whilst Balatonfüred has been granted 250 million HUF non-reimbursable assistance.
