Environmentally-friendly school and new jobs in Cegléd12 June 2008
One of schools located at the outskirts of Cegléd was both externally and internally renewed with the help of EU funding of nearly 250 000 million HUF in value. Ms Klára Dobrev, the Prime Minister’s wife officially handed over the new facilities – which ceremony 100 students also attended – of the kindergarten and primary school located on Örkény St., to which new classrooms and activity rooms have been built extending the floor space of the institution that is now also equipped with an IT network by a total of 1000 square metres.
Nine new jobs were created as a result of the development. The Örkény St. affiliated institution of the Várkonyi István Kindergarten and Primary School is one of the 128 kindergartens and schools that were renewed within the framework of the Regional Development Operational Programme of National Development Plan I (NDP I) with the help of the total of 16.6 billion HUF funding earmarked for this objective. Modernisation of education is one the priority areas of NHDP; a total of 132 billion HUF has been made available for this purpose up to 2013 in the seven regions of the country.
The vast majority of students enrolled in the Örkény St. affiliated institution of the Várkonyi István Kindergarten and Primary School in the 35km2 district are children with multiple disadvantages and special educational needs. 80% of the students come from a Roma background, which is why the pedagogical programme of the schools is based on integrated education in order for the students to be able to pass subjects. The rundown state of the school building considerably constrained the implementation of objectives at an earlier date.
The Local Government of Cegléd was granted non-reimbursable assistance of 230 million HUF in value pursuant to the submission of their application within the framework of the Regional Development Operational Programme of NDP I; the institution was fully renewed and extensions of nearly 1000m2 were built by using this assistance. 4 new classrooms and 2 new kindergarten activity rooms were created, 1 dining-hall was set up, the sports-yard was modernised and the immediate surroundings of the school was made more attractive as well. The material conditions underlying modern and effective education were created via the equipment acquisitions and installation of IT and communication technologies. The pedagogical programme was update in order to ensure integrated education; moreover, there was even enough money left to ensure training for teachers.
