Balatonfüred is being made even more attractive 8 July 2008
The first assistance contract concluded in connection with priority projects implemented in the Central Transdanubian Region was signed on 7 July.
The local government of Balatonfüred was granted non-reimbursable assistance of 1.5 billion HUF in value within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan for the development of town centre established during the Reform Era (first half of the 19th century). Thanks to the priority project, it will now become possible to rehabilitate the run-down Vaszary Manor House, two museums, as well as a series of public spaces and parks in the downtown area declared a historic district in 2005.
The project is the continuation of the „Jewel of the banks of Lake Balaton I” project approved funding within the framework of the Regional Operational Programme; the current series of developments builds on the achievements of this project. This is a unique investment in the region, since it focuses on the complex development of a historic town centre.
A Local History Collection and Tourist Information Centre will be established, the Jókai Mór Memorial Museum will be restored, municipal roads will be renewed and the reconstruction of the Vaszary Manor House will take place within the framework of the project.
The aim of the development is to enhance the competitiveness of the Balaton region, make the region more attractive in order to lure more tourists to the region, exploit, and conserve historic and cultural values and reduce the strong seasonality characteristic of the region.
