Dump Site Being Built in Nagyecsed 3 November 2008

The construction of the dump site in Nagyecsed and connecting service facilities was officially launched on 20 October by laying the foundation stone.

The Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Waste Management Programme affecting over 200 settlement and a total of 600,000 people implemented with the help of EU funding establishes conditions for modern waste management in the region by organising waste collection in three districts (Nyíregyháza, Kisvárda, Nagyecsed).

Technical experts have been working on the development of the waste management plant in Kisvárda since spring. A clay seal was built to insulate the dump site capable of accommodating 165,000 cubic metres of waste by using 22,000 cubic metres of clay; the return flow drainage system is currently being built and the next step involves the placement of the laminated insulated panels.

Construction commenced in September at the site in Nyíregyháza; laying the foundation in the waste sorting hall is currently being prepared.

Construction of a dump site and connecting complementary facilities has just begun in Nagyecsed. Having launched this investment, a state-of-the-art waste treatment site is being built in a region of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County where a suitably insulated dump site has never operated before.

The 4-hectare dump site complying in every regard with prevailing regulations will resolve the safe elimination of residential solid waste accumulating in the collection districts for a period of 10 years. Building contractors had to remove a total of approx. 300,000 cubic metres of earth during the course of the construction of the dump site and, among others, placed subsoil insulation panels 2.5 mm thick over an area of 40,000 sqm surface beneath the dump.

The objective of the solid waste management system implemented with the help of funding of 9 billion HUF in value granted by the Cohesion Fund is to establish a complex waste management system that helps reduce environmental pollution and health risks caused by waste to a minimum level, concurrently to which it becomes possible to recycle the highest ratio of waste possible. According to plans, selective waste collection in the region may reach up to 30-40% within a period of 10 years.
