Renewal of the Railway Line between Ferencváros and Vecsés has been Completed16 February 2009

The railway line running between Ferencváros and Vecsés renewed with the help of EU funding was handed over on 12 February. The section that was renewed by investing a total of 6.5 billion HUF will play a key role in passenger train services and international rail freight transport. Mr Csaba Molnár Minister for Transport and Mr Pál Steiner President of the Central Hungary Regional Development Council also attended the event.

A new station was built adjacent to Airport Terminal 1 in 2007 in the first phase of the investment. 2 passenger platforms and 1 pedestrian flyover – to which a lift has also been built to ensure handicap access – were built at the station; in addition, modern lighting, a passenger information audio system and camera video surveillance system were also installed. A direct rail connection between the Western Railway Station (Nyugati) and Ferihegy Aiport is now ensured as an outcome of this investment. Intercity trains now stop at this station, which therefore makes to possible to travel directly to the airport from Nyíregyháza, Debrecen or Szolnok.

The complete track network of Pestlőrinc Railway Station was reconstructed in the next phase of the investment; the historical railway station was renewed, a new pedestrian flyover was completed and three railway bridges were also upgraded and modernised. A 348 metre-long brick wall and 2640 metre-long noise protection barrier was built to protect apartment buildings.
The quality of railway services has improved, travel time has decreased and safe and environmental-friendly transport has been made possible as an outcome of the renewal of this section of the railway line. Passenger safety and train travel speed along this new section complies with basic requirements stipulated by the European Union.
The investment was implemented with the help of funding granted by ISPA/Cohesion Fund.
