Gust of Fresh Air for Komárom in Summer 201023 March 2009

The bypass section of Highway 13 around Komárom will be completed next year. The southern bypass of Highway 13 around Komárom will be implemented within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan. The assistance contract worth nearly 2 billion HUF was handed over in Komárom on 20 March.

Traffic along the sections of Highway 1 and 13 running through the town will be reduced thanks to the bypass section of Highway 13 around Komárom and freight traffic heading towards the town from Komárom Industrial Park will be redirected towards Motorway M1.
This construction will be implemented through European Union co-financing and the signed assistance contract confirming this development was handed over by Dr Csaba Molnár Minister for Transport, Telecommunication and Energy to Ms Márta Szabó Regional Office Manager of the National Infrastructure Development Corporation in the Town Hall of Komárom.
Transit traffic running through the town – mainly due to the operation of the industrial park – mostly consisting of heavy vehicles causes significant burdens for the town of Komárom. The vast majority of this traffic heads towards Motorway M1 via the sections of Highway 1 and 13 running through the town. Komárom is consequently exposed to considerable environmental burdens, among others noise and air pollution and being prone to high risk of accidents.
On the grounds of the traffic assessment carried out, 20% of the current traffic heading from Koppánymonostor towards Highway 13, 80% of the transit traffic along Highway 1,30% of the transit traffic along Highway 13 and 90% of heavy traffic from Slovakia would be re-directed towards the bypass road.
The way in which the new road bridge spanning the Danube between Komárom and Komárno envisaged to be constructed will also be connected to the national road network justifies the grounds of this investment. This bypass road will be built with the specific aim of redirecting traffic running along the new bridge ensuring inter-regional connections in the future towards Motorway M1.
The construction work is anticipated to be completed on 30 June 2010 and the road is expected to be open to traffic at the end of August 2010.
