New Mechatronics Park in Miskolc Ceremoniously Handed Over26 March 2009

Miskolc City of County Rank has been approved nearly 700 million HUF within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan for the construction of the new Mechatronics Industrial Park.

Modernisation of the economic structure of the city of Miskolc and its agglomeration, improving conditions underpinning competitiveness and increasing the level of local employment are all made possible thanks to this priority project. The renewed Industrial Park was ceremoniously handed over on 25 March; Mr László Varju State-Secretary of the Ministry for National Development and Economy and Mr Sándor Káli Mayor of Miskolcs attended this event.

The 68.5-hectare area of the Miskolc Industrial Park (MIP) was awarded the title of "Industrial Park" in December 2005 pursuant to the decision of the Ministry of Economy and Transport.

However, owing to the sale of space to enterprises setting up sites in the industrial park over the past two years, there is little free property space left in the industrial park for accommodating further enterprises. The development and extension of the industrial park has become vital in terms of the development of the city, due to keen interest shown by investors over the past period, which is why in 2007 Miskolc Real Property Management Plc purchased the property adjacent to the industrial park generally known as the „airport” from the Local Government of Miskolc City of County Rank; the area of MIP has consequently been extended by 45 hectares.

The development implementing the extension of the Miskolc Industrial Park, namely, the so-called Mechatronics Industrial Park project costing a total of nearly 1.3 billion HUF was classified as a priority project in August 2007. The project could consequently be implemented through 50% EU co-financing (700 million HUF) within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan.

The key objective of the project is geared towards the modernisation of the economic structure of the city of Miskolc and its agglomeration, improving conditions underpinning competitiveness and increasing the level of local employment. Its direct target group is enterprises engaging in mechatronics industrial production and service activities, which find favourable conditions for operation and cooperation in MIP.

The other key objective of the project is to launch the larger scale development of the mechatronics industry and innovative industrial technologies by taking advantage of the synergy of the successful Pole Programme and the Bosch factories operating in the immediate vicinity of the park and develop practical economic development skills building on modern engineering and technological sciences, as well as economic management knowledge and skills. Increasing the number of enterprises engaging in production and production services consistently operating at a profitable level, encouraging entrepreneurship, creating new jobs, i.e., reducing the unemployment rate in the city and its agglomeration and improving the employment conditions of unemployed individuals - career starters in particular – holding technology degrees are all relevant tasks as well.
Miskolc Holding Local Government Asset Management Corporation implemented the Mechatronics Industrial Park Project in partnership with the Miskolc Real Property Management Plc. with the help of funding made available by the North Hungary Operational Programme.

By developing the industrial park, the city wishes to create attractive investment opportunities for investors primarily implementing investments that create jobs.
