Hospital Development in Central Hungary15 October 2009

Thanks to funding amounting to 9.6 billion HUF provided by the New Hungary Development Plan, the Jávorszky Ödön Hospital in Vác will be renewed by the end of 2010 and the reconstruction of Saint Imre Hospital and Uzsoki Street Hospital will also be completed.

EU funding amounting to a total of 481 billion HUF ensures more modern and higher standard patient care services during the 2007-2013 period, emphasised Mr László Varju State Secretary of the Ministry for National Development and Economy at the official signing ceremony of the assistance contract of the Jávorszky Ödön Hospital in Vác .

The modernisation of the healthcare institutional system is one of Hungary’s priority objectives. EU funding amounting to a total of 481 billion HUF has been made available for this purpose during the 2007-2013 period within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan (NHDP).

Funding amounting to 311 billion HUF benefits infrastructure development and nearly 60 billion HUF has been allocated for human resource development and health preservation. Alongside state funding, a further 110 billion HUF is ensured for healthcare modernisation within the framework of regional operational programmes.

The comprehensive objective of the Jávorszky Ödön Hospital priority project is to improve the health status of the population in the region of Vác (Szob, Vác, Dunakeszi and Veresegyháza micro-region), as well as employment levels in the region through the former and therefore the competitiveness of enterprises. Its specific objective is to facilitate the long-term operation of the hospital in Vác by setting up a more efficient structural framework.

The main building will be transformed and pavilions operating in the hospital grounds will be renewed thanks to infrastructure developments implemented with the help of EU funding amounting to approximately 2 billion HUF. Within the framework of these developments, bathroom extensions will be added to 6-bed wards in the main building, which will consequently be transformed into 5-bed wards, making the accommodation of patients more convenient. In addition, heat supply units will be modernised, doors and windows will be replaced and the currently operating building energy monitoring system will also be further developed. By implementing this investment, full handicap access (physical and info-communication) will also be ensured in the buildings where developments will take place. This funding also provides the opportunity for the rational placement of professionally inter-connected units. Beyond the renewal of buildings, basic furniture is also envisaged to be procured within the framework of this project. Services will become safer by replacing and upgrading medical equipment and patient waiting time arising due to malfunctions will decrease.

Developments are expected to be completed by summer 2011.
