Construction of Star Point Hospital in Miskolc Underway19 October 2009

The development of 8 pole hospitals is to be implemented with the help NHDP funding amounting to 85.2 billion HUF. One of these developments is the establishment of the "Star Point Hospital" in Miskolc.

The 10 billion HUF assistance contract regarding the renewal of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Hospital and University Teaching Hospital was signed on 16 October.

The health status of the working-age population in the North Hungary region is particularly poor. Access to healthcare services in the region, in terms of both space and time, is unsatisfactory; the buildings of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Hospital are in a run-down state and scattered around the hospital grounds.
The aim of this project is to eliminate this pavilion-type structure by setting up a maintainable modern block hospital functioning as a complex professional care and infrastructural unit.

The name "Star Point" itself implies providing regional services by pooling patients in this centre and, as a result of IT developments implemented over the past few years within the framework of the Human Resource Development Operational Programme, extends to include setting up a regional information cooperation centre, as well as the Star Point Building symbolising a star together with the blocks linked to this building. A closed and open corridor network will connect the "Star Point Building" to adjacent buildings providing medical services, hence forming the Star Point Block.

By implementing this development, a unique emergency centre will be set up in the country, which extends to include a general adult and children’s emergency care unit providing traumatology and neurotraumatology services, as well as direct access to the helicopter landing pad and intensive care services. By transforming the hospital into a block hospital, patient transfer and material supply demands will considerably decrease and patient and material supply routes will shorten, hence saving energy, as well as human resources.
Preference for low energy consumption equipment and installations, low-heat emission equipment, setting up standardised technological apparatuses and, in overall terms, using technologies that operate at a higher efficiency with low environmental impacts was generally taken into account during the course of technological planning.

The population directly belonging to the district of the hospital is the immediate target group of the project, i.e., approximately 760,000 people and the entire population of the North Hungary region in terms of progressive services, which implies over 1.2 million people living in some 610 settlements.

By exploiting the positive labour market attributes of the modern hospital complex to be set up, which ensures better quality employment conditions, the hospital will be able to develop its human resources and fill vacant positions, hence favourably impacting the status of the labour market in the North Hungary region on the long run.

The "Star Point" project implemented within the framework of the health pole development initiative contributes to improving the health status of the population by providing skilled human resources for the developing economy of Miskolc pole city.
