Hungarian Healthcare Research Centre to Be Constructed17 November 2009

A Hungarian R+D cluster centre also cooperating with renowned Hungarian universities and specialising in the development and manufacturing of medical and biomedical equipment, as well as therapies, functional foodstuffs and medicine combinations will be set up in Balatonfüred.

"We need to adjust measures taken by the Government to economic reality, in order for Hungary’s research and development results to be effectively competitive on the global market as well"- emphasised Mr István Varga Minister for National Development and Economy, at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Pharmagora Quality of Life Cluster.

By setting up this research centre costing 574.4 million HUF, a building complex enabling the monitoring of specific development phases of products, from the initial concept through to small-scale serial production, will be added to the cluster. Beyond researching, developing and manufacturing medical and biomedical measuring instruments, it will also be possible to undertake laboratory testing, precision mechanics, electronics, as well as software and system development activities at this R+D centre. Funding amounting to 287.4million HUF has been made available by the New Hungary Development Plan for setting up this centre.

"The cluster established in 2006 through the cooperation of 11 small and medium enterprises was created in the spirit of economic rationale. We are capable of working more efficiently by cooperating, since members focus their activities in the same or largely identical segment of the market. The cluster works in close cooperation with Semmelweis University, as well as the University of Szeged"- highlighted Mr György Grosz, president of the network.

"Concurrently to setting up the Pharmagora Quality of Life Cluster in Balatonfüred, another similar organisation decided to settle in our town, as a result of which Balatonfüred is evolving into a new star on the Hungarian research and development horizon." added Mr István Bóka, Mayor of Balatonfüred.
