Complex Development of Gárdonyi Géza Primary School in Érd Implemented from EU Funding19 November 2009

The NHDP National School Renewal Programme is the most significant kindergarten and school renewal programme implemented over the past 50 years, within the framework of which outdated buildings in 365 kindergartens and schools will be renewed and extended up to 2011, representing developments amounting to approximately 105 billion HUF in value. The European Union granted 250 million HUF for the renewal of Gárdonyi Géza Primary School in Érd.

6 primary education institutions were built or renewed in Pest County within the framework of the National Development Plan by making use of funding amounting to 1.24 billion HUF. As a continuation, 46 public education development projects representing 11.6 billion HUF in value have already been launched in the Central Hungary region within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan.

The fundamental aim of the complex modernisation of Gárdonyi Géza Primary School in Érd handed over on 18 November, involved ensuring conditions required for providing quality education for disadvantaged children and setting up integrated education in the spirit of equal opportunity.
Programmes with new syllabi and methodology were introduced through the procurement of the best tools available for developing competencies in order for children to acquire competitive knowledge and skills. Setting up rational operations adhering to the spirit of environmental protection and sustainability was a key consideration.

Gárdonyi Géza Primary School is located in the demographically growing Tusculanum district of Érd City of County Rank surrounded by suburban residential zones. The school originally occupied 4 buildings, 3 brick buildings and 1 "weatherboard" building, the technical state of which was sub-standard. There will be plenty of room to accommodate students as an outcome of the renewal work, so classes will no longer have to be held in changing rooms. Service facilities, heating controllers, as well as the renewed school kitchen will all be available.

As an outcome of the series of complex developments that have been completed, the school now operates in a single block, perfectly meets 21st century requirements and is now able to accommodate 700 students, as a result of which the chronic lack of school places in Érd has been resolved. The developments that have been implemented enable the institution to fully provide healthcare education, public healthcare, equal opportunity, environmental education and quality management programmes and to offer an extremely high standard educational programme.
