Research, Development and Innovation Knowledge Centre Embracing the Entire Region to Be Set Up at University of Pannonia20 November 2009

Higher education developments amounting to a total of 55.4 billion HUF in value will be implemented within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan in 13 institutions following the close of two calls for applications (SIOP 1.3.1./1 and 1.3.1./2).

The University of Pannonia, based in Veszprém, was one of the applicants approved funding, at which institution infrastructure and IT developments will be implemented by investing nearly 4.5 billion HUF.

The immediate objective of the series of developments to take place at the University of Pannonia relates to extending and renewing the education, research and service real estate infrastructure, as well as equipment used. By setting up a research development and innovation Knowledge Centre embracing the entire region, this project will make it possible to establish higher level connections with industrial sectors within the region. The project to be implemented with the help of EU funding amounting to nearly 4.2 billion HUF, the assistance contract of which has just been signed, equally establishes the preconditions required for implementing infrastructure and IT developments at the University.

A Training and Research Centre, Student Services Centre, Technological Experimental Centre and Research Development Centre will be set up at the Veszprém campus of the University of Pannonia. Moreover, objectives equally extend to include setting up a Biotechnology Training and Research Centre, developing the Szendrey site and setting up a stud farm at the university's faculty in Keszthely. Building investments and major equipment procurements will commence at the campus in Székesfehérvár. The IT network of the entire university will be upgraded within the framework of info-communication technology developments.

Establishing research development and innovation cooperation between universities and enterprises (otherwise known as knowledge transfer) is the long-term objective of these developments, as an outcome of which marketable R+D+I results may evolve on the grounds of preliminary economic information available. Products produced through such means help create competitive regional enterprises, as well as new jobs.

As an impact of cooperation between universities and enterprises, Hungarian enterprises will also be able to make use of resources made available by investing these in further developments. These enterprises will be able to invest these resources in research development and innovation activities developed jointly with universities. By creating this "circulation", it will be possible to enlarge the information society, which the EU also solicits.
