Central Hungary Oncology Centre of the National Institute of Oncology to Be Renewed over the Next Two Years 3 December 2009

The development of the National Institute of Oncology will be implemented with the help of EU funding amounting to 5.4 billion HUF.

The institute will consequently be able to provide inpatient and outpatient services for cancer patients at a European standard.
Hungary is among the leading countries of the region as regards the number and ratio of deaths caused by cancer. The institution to be renewed will substantially contribute to improving the chances of recovery of cancer patients at both a national level and within the region.

Providing higher standard treatment for cancer patients at a higher level of efficiency than before serves the interest of the central healthcare system and society as a whole. Among others, a new surgery block will be built, the diagnostics block and its equipment will be upgraded and 12 new chemotherapy treatment units and chemotherapy inpatient wards will be set up as an outcome of the project to be implemented within the framework of the Central Hungary Operational Programme. An oncology centre equally satisfying European expectations and fully covering regional demands will consequently be made available in the Central Hungary region. Thanks to these investments, the institution will be capable of providing high standard complex services based on equal opportunity for oncology patients in the region. It will be possible to provide more efficient diagnostics and medical services, improve working conditions, as well as the standard of services by developing the medical infrastructure and replacing diagnostics instruments.

Funding amounting to 5.4 billion HUF has been approved for implementing this investment, which is complemented by 10% own funds. This project will be launched in December this year and construction and modernisation works will be completed by the end of 2011.
