Renewed Healthcare Institutions in the North Great Plain Region 1 February 2010

3 renewed healthcare institutions are about to be handed over in the North Great Plain region within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan.

183 healthcare development projects allocated funding amounting to more than 40 billion HUF were launched within the framework of the Regional Operational Programme during the 2007-2008 period with the help of EU funding; 35 such projects have already been handed over.

The new healthcare institutions that have just been set up were built or renewed in settlements located in multiply disadvantaged micro-regions. An extremely high ratio of people living in these settlements is unemployed and live under difficult social conditions, which largely influences their state of health. Ensuring appropriate infrastructure and medical equipment, as well as suitable standard basic healthcare services and increasing efficiency is extremely important in these settlements.

Basic healthcare services provided in the settlement of Nyírkarász were dispersed, located in several buildings and operated under bad infrastructural conditions prior to the implementation of the project. A new healthcare centre was set up and equipped with all necessary mandatory elements stipulated as an outcome of the investment implemented with the help of EU funding amounting to over 73 million HUF. Complex handicap access to the building was created, medical equipment was upgraded and new healthcare services were introduced in the institution within the framework of this development. .

The construction of a new healthcare centre that complies with legislative and official requirements and regulations in effect was urgently needed in the settlement of Nyírkáta to replace the completely rundown clinic providing basic medical services. Suitable standard basic medical services can now be provided in the new building in Nyírkáta, installations, as well as medical and IT equipment underpinning prevention and improving the working conditions of employees were procured and complex handicap access is now ensured to the building thanks to the project implemented with the help of EU funding amounting to over 63 million HUF.

The local GP surgery in Bátorliget was completely renewed and equipped with various instruments, as well as IT and medical equipment; moreover, complex physical access to the building is now ensured and an info-communication system was also installed in the building to assist the disabled. The key objective of this development implemented with EU funding amounting to more than 37 million HUF involved making healthcare services more appealing by developing the infrastructure and improving the working conditions of employees. This project contributes to enforcing the principle of equal opportunity and ensuring easy access for persons with disabilities and impairments to basic medical services. As planned, windows and doors were replaced and adjusted to ensure handicap access, internal and external surfaces of the building were re-painted; coverings, as well as the electricity, water and heating system were upgraded and the entire roof structure was replaced. An environmental protection programme was also introduced in the settlement, the aim of which relates to promoting the use of recycled material and launching a higher number of hazardous waste collection promotion campaigns. This investment has a positive impact on both the external and internal environment, consequently the living conditions of people living in this region is also expected to improve.
