Érd-Erzsébetváros Drainage Network to Be Developed by Investing Over 663 million HUF 8 February 2010

The Érd-Erzsébetváros rainwater drainage system will be completed by the end of summer by investing over 663 million HUF.

This project will be implemented within the framework of the Central Hungary Operational Programme from EU funding amounting to 597 million HUF and will largely contribute to improving the quality of life of the 2,400 residents living in the area. An 8,550-metre-long drainage canal and a 2,330-metre-long drainage network regulating groundwater will be constructed as a part of this development.

The construction of a technically uniform drainage system and decreasing groundwater levels in low-lying areas is also an integral part of this project. The most relevant and direct aim of this investment relates to improving the quality of life, level of comfort of families living in Erzsébetváros and safeguarding their properties. It will be possible to avoid future water damages, create attractive streets and even improve the population retention capacity of the settlement of Érd, alongside boosting local tourism potentials by implementing this drainage development project and series of accompanying infrastructure developments.

The population of Érd has dramatically increased over the past few years and may even evolve into the 12th or 13th most populous municipality by 2025. The development of the municipal drainage network was unable to keep pace with this growth rate. Pedestrian, bicycle and motor vehicle transport in the area becomes problematic whenever it rains on account of the sub-standard quality surface of the roads and the lack of rainwater drainage canals. This makes it difficult to access workplaces and public education institutions and also creates major financial burdens for the local government, as well as the population.

As an outcome of the 2007-2008 planning period, the implementation of drainage development projects in 109 various municipal and outer areas is currently in progress. Funding amounting to a total of over 22.6 billion HUF has been approved for these projects, the investment value of which exceeds 25 billion HUF. 19 applications were approved funding amounting to over 6.5 billion HUF in the Central Hungary region within the framework of this scheme, which programme was once again announced in 2009 and allocated a framework amounting to over 12 billion HUF.
