Heavy Vehicles to Bypass Hosszúhetény From Now On 8 February 2010

The approximately 3-kilometre-long section of Road 6541 bypassing the settlement of Hosszúhetény has just been completed within the framework of the Regional Operational Programme of the New Hungary Development Plan with the EU funding amounting to more than 948 million HUF. The new section of the road was officially inaugurated on 5 February.

One of the objectives of priority transport development projects implemented within the framework of the Regional Operational Programme of the New Hungary Development Plan relates to developing the subsidiary road network, i.e., renewing and upgrading 4- and 5-digit roads and constructing missing link roads or bypasses with the aim of improving the quality of transport in settlements affected by this development, integrating small settlements into economic circulation and reducing detrimental environmental impacts. Through this renewal work and by constructing new link roads and bypasses, transport conditions for several hundreds of thousands of people will both directly and indirectly perceivably improve.

A total of 180 sections, the combined length of which is equivalent to 1,100 kilometres, of 4- and 5-digit roads were upgraded during 2008 and 2009 in 7 regions in Hungary with the help of EU funding amounting to over 50 billion HUF. Construction work on over 1000 kilometres was completed by the end of 2009, whilst an additional 76 kilometres will be opened to traffic by spring 2010. The renewal of an additional over 1300 kilometres of 4- and 5-digit roads will commence in 2010 within the framework of the 2009-2010 action plans of the Regional Operational Programmes. The financial framework earmarked for these action plans running up till 2013 is expected to reach 200 billion HUF.

The Government classified the construction of the bypass road around Hosszúhetény a priority project in summer 2007, which is how this project became integrated into the process aimed at effectively transforming the Hungarian road network. Construction work has so far been completed on over 1,000 kilometres of 4- and 5-digit roads.
