Renewed Kindergarten in Bükkszenterzsébet Handed Over15 February 2010

EU funding amounting to 105 billion HUF has been made available up to 2011 within the framework of the NHDP National School Renewal Programme.

This funding ensures the opportunity to implement 365 projects, within the framework of which numerous outdated, run-down kindergarten and school buildings will be renewed and quality educational institutions will be set up. The most significant kindergarten and school renewal programme of the past 50 years is being implemented within the framework of NHDP. The European Union has contributed some 60 million HUF towards the development of the kindergarten in Bükkszenterzsébet.

Extensions, which, among others, include a new gymnastics room and speech therapy room, were added to the kindergarten building as a part of the developments implemented in Bükkszenterzsébet ceremoniously handed over on 12 February. Handicap access is now ensured to this building and its rundown parts have also been renewed. Creating a child-friendly environment and the procurement of instruments used to develop skills was a key part of this development. Quality education and creating equal opportunity for the youngest age-group can now be ensured thanks to this project. An energy-efficient and modern public education institution has been created by renewing and upgrading the existing institution.

The objective of this project equally extended to include upgrading the educational process with the aim of introducing competency-based education later on. Many of the children enrolled in the kindergarten in Bükkszenterzsébet live in disadvantaged families or come from a diverse range of socio-cultural backgrounds. The kindergarten’s management believes that it is important to care about the fate of each individual child. Special attention was paid to improving the conditions of these target-groups, including those of disadvantaged children during the course of the implementation of this project. The special needs of these target groups were assessed in collaboration with the local government prior to the start of this project, on which basis project priorities were defined. Helping multiply disadvantaged children with special needs living in the micro-region of Pétervásár and its environs was defined as top priority. A modern kindergarten providing effective education is a huge help in facilitating the social integration of these children, increasing equal opportunity, as well as reducing disadvantages.

The kindergarten in Bükkszenterzsébet has now evolved into a modern institution operating on a rational basis and according to EU requirements. Physical and instrumental conditions enabling high standard effective kindergarten education adjusted to personal needs and building on the development of skills and competencies were established as an outcome of this development.
