EU MAP – Comprehensive Database of EU Developments17 February 2010

A new web map application presenting practically all projects approved funding within the framework of every operational programme of the first National Development Plan (NDP I) and the New Hungary Development Plan (NHDP) will be available on the NDA website from 17 February.

Visit the website www.euter.nfu.hu to access the web application called "EU MAP". A public database of unprecedented size presenting development projects funded by the European Union is being launched as an outcome of this development.

This new web application accessible via the NDA website may be familiar to visitors, since a similar database called "ROPTÉR" has been operating since autumn last year. Only developments implemented within the framework of regional programmes have so far been presented in "ROPTÉR"; however, some 30,000 projects approved funding within the framework of NDP I and NHDP will also be accessible from now on.

Similarly to Google Maps, "EU MAP" provides the opportunity to become acquainted with projects approved funding within the framework of the National Development Plan and the New Hungary Development Plan by consulting a special map. Various filtering criteria can be provided to browse among projects. Queries can, on the one hand, be made according to the spatial location of projects approved funding, ranging from regional and micro-regional classification through to specific settlements, whilst at the same time it is even possible to download summaries presenting a national overview. Content-based filtering is equally capable of presenting an almost comprehensive summary of specific operational programmes; however, various themes, sub-themes, or even the code number of specific calls for applications can be provided as search criterions. This web application also ensures the opportunity to access the list of applicants/beneficiaries approved funding within the framework of specific calls; however, it is equally possible to compile specific queries and set filtering options according to other, possibly administrative criteria. Filtering criteria may be combined and results can be saved in a table.

On account of how the data of over 28,300 registered projects will be filtered when this application is launched – which number is increasing from one day to the next – it is also possible to display filtering in several forms. Icons help visually display and separate the 110 various sub-themes; in any case, the structure of this web application is extremely user-friendly.

"EU MAP" is a real Web 2.0 interactive web application enabling the uploading of images, videos, website addresses and detailed descriptions of NDP and NHDP projects displayed on the freely accessible Google Maps platform refreshed on an ongoing basis. Project hosts approved funding also have the opportunity to make changes and add information to this database.

Who do we recommend this web application for? The "EU MAP" web application may be of great use to experts researching/assessing a given theme, since it provides access to a large volume of data and statistics and includes special filtering options. The application should also provide essential help for journalists reporting on developments, since it features a continuously increasing number of photos, videos, 3D models and contents of specific projects. In addition, the texts provided help visitors gain insight into the specifications of investments approved funding. We equally recommend the use of this web application for anyone interested in receiving information about their settlement and environment, or even the country’s development, the impetus of which is fuelled by EU funding.
