Construction of Yet Another Micro-regional Outpatient Healthcare Centre to Commence in Sellye19 February 2010

A total of 481 billion HUF has been earmarked within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan for healthcare developments over the 2007-2013 period. The EU is contributing nearly 900 million HUF towards the development of the outpatient healthcare centre in Sellye.

The development of healthcare centres undertaking micro-regional tasks has begun in several settlements over the past few months, towards the implementation of which the European Union has granted a significant amount of funding. The fundamental aim of these healthcare centres relates to ensuring access to suitable standard healthcare services for everyone, even in settlements where no such healthcare services were available earlier.

A total of 25 billion HUF was made available within the framework of the Social Infrastructure Operational Programme for constructing and developing micro-regional outpatient healthcare centres; funding ranging between 500 million HUF and 1 billion HUF could be approved for each specific development. The construction of the healthcare centre in Sellye can commence thanks to this scheme.

With a population of approximately 3050, Sellye is a settlement located 30 kilometres away from Szigetvár, 42 kilometres from Siklós, 45 kilometres from Pécs and 6 kilometres from the Drava River in the south-western part of Baranya County along the road connecting the settlements of Villány and Barcs. This settlement is also called the capital of the Ormánság region on account of how it lies in the hub of the region. Medical services provided at the healthcare centre currently operating in Sellye are accessible 57 hours a week; 19,000 patients visit this institution on an annual basis where, beyond dermatology, maternity and gynaecology, rheumatology and psychiatry units, basic diagnostics services and physiotherapy are also available.

A new healthcare centre where medical services will be accessible 200 hours a week will be set up within the framework of this application aimed at providing a wider spectrum of medical services in view of how - on the grounds of the volume of state-financed services accessible at present and the composition of the medical team - there is a lack of medical services available in the region, i.e., fully state-financed outpatient care provided 200 hours a week is not accessible in the case of basic medical services. A modern outpatient healthcare centre providing medical services 200 hours a week and available for all residents of the micro-region will be set up as an outcome of this development.
