From Pre-School to High School – EU Funding for Developing Education through Micro-regional Cooperation24 February 2010

The Local Government of Bátaszék has been approved funding amounting to 996 million HUF within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan, enabling the renewal of several kindergartens, one crèche, primary school and high school in the micro-region.

The aim of this investment launched on 23 February relates to creating a modern integrated institution providing quality education from pre-school through to the baccalaureate within the framework of professional cooperation established between the settlements of Mórágy, Báta and Bátaapáti also integrating the settlements of Bátaszék, Alsónyék and Pörböly. Renewal work will be carried out at 9 various locations by integrating 6 collaborating professional partners. This project will ensure equal access to public education for 1,200 children.

The Municipal Kindergarten in Bátaszék currently operating at three different locations will be merged into the same building within the framework of this development, as an outcome of which an educational institution with 10 groups will be created. The youngest age-group will move into the emptied kindergarten in Perczel Street after the renewal work is completed. The heating system will be renewed, doors and windows will be replaced and the school kitchen will be reconstructed at the Primary School in Bátaszék. The assembly hall, music classroom, classrooms used to provide individualised and group instruction, as well as the humanities classroom and the library will be accommodated in the new wing. This development is particularly needed on account of potentials associated with the central micro-regional role of the institution. A modern heating system will be installed and old worn out windows and doors will be replaced in the high school. The old gymnasium will be transformed into a classroom and auditorium and additional floor-space suitable for accommodating 200-250 persons will be added to the institution by building extensions.

The kindergarten building used currently in Pörböly needs to be extended and renewed. According to plans, a group room, children’s changing room and washroom, isolation and individual therapy room, staff room and adult toilet will be created in the renewed wing. In addition, the roof structure, insulation and coverings will be renewed and the kitchen will also be reconstructed.

Individual therapy rooms and a new washroom will be provided for kindergarten pupils in Alsónyék; in addition, a kitchen with a separate entrance, washroom and scrap bin will soon also be available to help the work of the staff. Windows and doors will be replaced and the roof structure, floor coverings, as well as the water, gas and electricity system will be renewed within the framework of this investment.

Handicap access will be created to each institution concurrently to these renewals and education raising awareness about environmental protection will also continue. Waste and batteries were collected selectively even before this development was launched; however, once this investment is completed even hot water will be generated by using environmentally-friendly technology, i.e., with the help of solar panels.
