Funding Amounting to Around 557 Million HUF for the Development of Emergency Care Services at the Municipal Hospital Clinic in Siófok12 March 2010

Emergency care units in 26 hospitals in Hungary will be developed to meet European standards and evolve into modern centres by investing a total of 12 billion HUF made available through calls aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of emergency care services announced within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan.

The Municipal Hospital Clinic in Siófok is one of these hospitals, which institution was granted EU funding amounting to around 557 million HUF for developing emergency care services. The assistance contract underpinning this development was signed on 12 March.

The Municipal Hospital Clinic in Siófok is the central hospital in the Southern Transdanubian region. There is no other hospital within a 50-kilometre reach in this region, which is why raising the standard of emergency care services emerged as a necessary development demand. The modern, single window system admitting emergency patients to 9-bed wards will be introduced in this institution within the framework of this project to be implemented from EU funding. A new 1154 m2 Emergency Care Unit will be built, a new paediatric emergency care division will be set up and a helicopter landing pad will also be constructed.

Developing emergency care services helps improve the organisation, management and efficiency of patient services. It makes the transfer of patients between and within institutions easier and clearer to follow, services provided easier to manage and monitor, helps introduce service standards and standardise and apply relevant guidelines. Concentrating services contributes to achieving results and providing more effective treatment.

A modern, European standard emergency care unit complying with regulations on equal opportunity will be created by September 2011 as an outcome of construction works expected to begin in August.
