Remedial and Health Tourism Development to Commence at the Medical and Thermal Bath Complex in Makó16 March 2010

A modern, high indoor capacity thermal bath offering a full range of remedial and health tourism services and a spa building with a unique architectural layout and design, which is a tourist attraction even in its own right, will be created as an outcome of this project to be implemented within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan.

The aim of this investment to be implemented with the help of EU funding amounting to over 1.5 billion HUF involves carrying out the complex development of the thermal bath by extending the range and raising the standard of service infrastructures. i.e., creating a thermal bath appreciated internationally.

Once this investment implemented from EU funding is completed, medical therapy will be the main profile of the Medical and Thermal Bath in Makó, where medical and rehabilitation therapy in mud baths and medicinal water will play a pivotal role. Remedial mud only found in Hungary in 5 places and in Makó in the Southern Transdanubian region only will play a key role in medical therapy. Remedial mud found in the River Maros is Makó’s natural treasure and has been certified as effective for use in the after treatment of lumbagos and limb therapy, curing chronic gynaecological inflammation and treating locomotor disorders and rheumatic diseases.

This new thermal bath envisages catering to the demands of every age group. The medical services provided at the complex may be attractive for the older age group or guests wishing to cure themselves, whilst the thermal bath to which new exciting components and wellness functions will be added will be available for the younger age group. The family spa, wellness and other special services should attract families and middle-aged people.

A total of 10 new pools will be constructed as a part of this investment, out of which three will function as theme pools. Once these are completed, a total of 18 pools will be available for guests wishing to relax and get cured, together with the pools operating at present.

The new, approximately 10.000-square-metre building will be ready by July 2011. This spa development is important for the town of Makó in several regards. On the one hand, because of how this new thermal bath will meet European standards both in terms of its attractive exterior and the services it offers. The secondary impacts of this investment are also positive in numerous regards. One of these is that a new industry will be established in the town, namely, tourism, which implies that hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues will be constructed, whilst new jobs require labour-power, since over 100 people will work in this new thermal bath complex alone.
