Developments Exceeding 1.5 billion HUF Implemented at Károly Róbert College in Gyöngyös19 March 2010

The New Hungary Development Plan paves the way to the most significant developments ever implemented over the past 20 years in provincial higher education institutions, enabling the launch of investments worth a total of 55.5 billion HUF in 13 higher educational institutions around the country. The event marking the completion of the first series of developments carried out at Károly Róbert College in Gyöngyös was held on 18 March.

The EU contributed funding amounting more than 1.5 billion HUF towards the implementation of the project carried out at Károly Róbert College. The fundamental aim of this development is for this institution to contribute to developing the region’s competitiveness as the leading knowledge centre of the North Hungary region in the field of economics, agricultural economics, environment and rural development education and train professionals with competitive knowledge in the labour market by consolidating and further developing the results achieved so far by the college. To attain these goals, the staff size of the college was increased and its infrastructures were developed within the framework of this project. By implementing this project, a regional knowledge centre capable of assuming a pivotal role in social and economic changes taking place in the region has been created.

A Student Information Services Centre offering practical training outside the formal curriculum for 200 students was set up within the framework of this development; in addition, the IT Centre and International Relations Office was also set up in the same location. Infrastructure used for teaching foreign languages was developed by raising the standard of services offered to students and ensuring the opportunity for self-directed learning and practicing foreign language skills. An innovative environment improving the efficiency of technology transfer between the institution and the business organisations operating in the region has been created.

Info-communication developments implemented at Károly Róbert College implied setting up the infrastructural background of systems equally supporting education, research and the management of the institution. The institution’s entire basic IT infrastructure, as well as the IT infrastructure supporting education, research, development, innovation and the management of the institution was developed.

Earlier on, 19 institutions were granted funding amounting to 13.7 billion HUF for setting up modern training and educational conditions within the first National Development Plan running over the 2004-2006 period, as an outcome of which infrastructural developments were carried out on an area exceeding 60,000 square metres, which improved educational and research conditions for some 110,000 students. Consequently, EU funding amounting to a total of nearly 70 billion HUF was made available over the 2004-2008 period for upgrading infrastructures in higher education institutions.
