Trail and Bicycle Route Constructed in Újfehértó22 March 2010

A trail and bicycle route, as well as a rainwater drainage network have been constructed adjacent to Road 4912 thanks to the project implemented in Újfehértó costing nearly 160 million HUF to complete and handed over on 19 March. 26 billion HUF has been earmarked within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan for constructing new bicycle routes around the country over the 2007-2013 period.

The development of bicycle routes was already prioritised during the 2004–2006 period within the framework of the National Development Plan, and EU funding amounting to 2.42 billion HUF was granted for this purpose through various calls. As an outcome of this, a total of 80 kilometres of bicycle routes was constructed at 11 locations around the country much to the delight of cyclists. Thanks to these successfully implemented EU applications, it is now possible to ride around Lake Tisza; a bicycle route network has been created in the Upper Tisza region and a bicycle route along the Tisza flood protection embankment was built between Csongrád and Szentes, as well as along the Danube flood protection embankment in Szentendre.

Some 26 billion HUF has been allocated for constructing new bicycle routes around the country over the 2007–2013 period within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan. During the 2007-2008 period, 84 applications were approved a total of 9 billion HUF of this 7-year framework, enabling the bicycle route network in Hungary to be extended by a total of 270 kilometres. New calls for applications were announced in spring 2009 within the framework of regional programmes, as an outcome of which 82 projects were granted a total of 9 billion HUF, enabling the construction of a total of 240 kilometres of bicycle routes.  -

A 2.7-metre-wide and 1.94-kilometre-long trail and bicycle route connecting the railway station and the town centre was constructed adjacent to Szent István Road within the framework of the project implemented in Újfehértó. The company National Infrastructure Development Ltd. (NIF) will construct the section of this bicycle route crossing over Highway 4 within the framework of another investment. 3 bicycle racks, culvert extensions, public utilities, as well as a closed rainwater drainage canal were constructed within the framework of this project, which was implemented from EU funding amounting to nearly 142 million HUF and has just been handed over.
