Emergency Care Services at Saint Lazarus County Hospital in Salgótarján to Be Developed from 550 Million HUF29 March 2010

The development of emergency care services at the Saint Lazarus County Hospital in Salgótarján will be implemented from over 550 million HUF with the help of the New Hungary Development Plan. The assistance contract underpinning this development has just been signed. Hungary is able to spend 481 billion HUF on healthcare developments over the 2007-2013 period thanks to funding granted by the European Union.

Through the series of calls aimed at raising the standard and improving the efficiency of emergency care services announced within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan, emergency care units at 26 hospitals in Hungary may evolve into European standard modern centres up to 2011 by investing 12 billion HUF. Nine of these hospitals already have assistance contracts. One of these is the Saint Lazarus County Hospital in Salgótarján, where emergency care services will be developed with the help of EU funding amounting to nearly 490 million HUF, the total cost of which development amounts to 550 million HUF.

EU calls for funding not only contribute to ensuring regional access to high standard healthcare services within reach for each individual patient, but also to creating more attractive jobs for doctors and healthcare workers.

Thanks to this investment implemented in Salgótarján, the institution will be able to provide the emergency care services the hospital is required to supply as a central hospital. Once completed, integrated duty and emergency care services will be available and ongoing, expedient, well-organised and efficient services will be provided around the clock for local residents at this upgraded and suitably equipped emergency care unit.

Some 800 applications submitted from Nógrád County in response to calls announced within the framework of the National Development Plan and the New Hungary Development Plan have been approved funding. This county has been granted EU funding amounting to a total of 54 billion HUF.
