Foundation Stone of the New Faculty of Engineering Building Laid at University of Szeged31 March 2010

The new building of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Szeged will be constructed with the help of EU funding by investing nearly 920 million HUF.

The New Hungary Development Plan paves the way to the most significant developments ever implemented over the past 20 years in provincial higher education institutions. 13 provincial universities and colleges will be able to develop their infrastructures and services to meet 21st century challenges with the help of EU funding amounting to a total of 55.4 billion HUF.

The newest wing of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Szeged, costing a total of 920 million HUF to complete, is being constructed with the help of EU funding amounting to nearly 750 million HUF. This is a part of the project, within the framework of which infrastructural investments costing a total of 7.7 billion HUF to complete will be implemented at the University of Szeged from funding amounting to 6.4 billion HUF. Thanks to these EU resources, the university will have the opportunity to develop the range of instruments used in the field of education and research, as well as in connection with business ventures.

By constructing the new building of the Faculty of Engineering and partially transforming facilities in place, a new 3,300 square-metre practical education centre will be established at the University of Szeged. New research rooms and laboratories will be set up and windows and doors will be replaced. Modern educational conditions will contribute to raising the appeal of this institution, as well as young graduates with competitive knowledge and skills better asserting themselves on the labour market.

Not only higher education institutions can benefit from EU funding calls; for example, 2.400 applications submitted from Csongrád County were approved funding under calls announced within the framework of the first National Development Plan and the New Hungary Development Plan. This county has been approved EU funding amounting to nearly a total of 324 billion HUF.
