Renewed Kindergartens in the Central Hungary Region 1 June 2010

Two kindergartens in the Central Hungary Region renewed within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan were handed over on 28 May.

The EU contributed funding amounting to over 240 million HUF towards the reconstruction of the Tarkabarka-Kunterbunt (Multi-Coloured) Bilingual Hungarian-German Kindergarten in Budakeszi and nearly 250 million HUF towards the construction of the kindergarten equipped with disabled facilities in Diósd.

As an outcome of the extension, modernisation and equipment procurements carried out at Tarkabarka Kindergarten in Budakeszi, an efficiently sustainable infrastructural environment relying on the use of alternative energy resources was created. This development is adjusted to the increasing number of children in the settlement and conditions underlying integrated education. Group rooms complying with size requirements, a new gym room and complementary rooms were created as a part of the transformation of the institution. In addition, the water and electric heating system was modernised; the roof was renewed and the kindergarten was equipped with disabled facilities. To promote energy efficiency and sustainability, use of alternative energy resources was introduced, a water tank was set up and energy-saving light bulbs and water-saving taps were installed. The operating costs of the institution will drastically decrease as a result of these energy-saving measures.

The old building was transformed to meet handicap accessibility requirements and the extension was also constructed in this spirit, in which two storey part of the building a lift will also be available from now on. Providing modern toys and games, as well as educational equipment for developing children’s skills and abilities and replacing missing or rundown installations were the key aims underpinning equipment procurements. This is why games and equipment used to develop logical abilities of children; teach children about the environment and required for providing integrated education, as well as gym equipment used to develop children’s basic motor abilities were also procured. Beyond infrastructural developments, equipment procurements tying in with curriculum development were also carried out, which contribute to providing competence-based and integrated education, developing motor abilities and teaching children about the environment.

The demographic boom experienced in Diósd made it necessary to build extensions to the kindergarten. Having implemented this project, it is now possible to educate children in a modern environment. Moreover, the aim of this project equally involved making it easier to educate children with special needs and extend the scope of integrated education to include the entire settlement.

To replace the containers used for education purposes up till now, a new building with disabled facilities capable of accommodating 100 persons was constructed, hence ensuring the opportunity to provide integrated education, which in turn should increase the number of mothers returning to the labour market. Strengthening tolerance in children belonging to the majority through joint activities offered at the kindergarten remains an important goal. According to data released by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH), persons with disabilities make up approximately 4.5% of the population, which – taking the 350 kindergarten-age children in the settlement as a basis - implies that there are approximately 16 disabled children in this settlement. These children will from now on be provided with professional care at this kindergarten, which means that it will be possible to develop these children both mentally, as well as physically.
