Renewed Promenade at the Baths in Zalakaros26 July 2010

In the framework of the West Pannon Operational Programme, public area reconstruction was carried out in Zalakaros; the space between the public administration centre, the bus station and the new main entrance of the Gránit thermal baths used by pedestrians and cyclists was renewed. The 59 million HUF project was supported with 50 million HUF of European Union funding.

The renovated route creates a pedestrian and bicycle link between the hotels in the south and south-east of the town, the public administration centre and the thermal baths.

The project transformed the earlier footpath into a promenade. Native trees were planted and benches, flower planters and waste bins installed. Renewable energy is used for public lighting.

A small outdoor market was also created, which not only sells the popular Canna flower, but also operates as an information point, providing information to tourists and locals about events and services in the town.

As a result of the project, the residents of Zalakaros and visitors can now enjoy a renewed public space.

There were 12 successful project proposals within the grant scheme “Small-scale, diffuse small town developments” within the West Pannon Operational Programme. The total EU funding for the successful projects is 580 million HUF.
