Pilis Park Forest Renewed with EU Funding23 July 2010

In the Framework of the Central Hungary Operational Programme, the complex development of approximately 400 hectares of nature protection area was implemented in the Pilis Park Forest. The 511 million HUF project received EU support of 460 million HUF.

As a result of changes in the past century, the size of the region’s forests has diminished and their structure has changed considerably. Some habitats have disappeared, and some species have encroached on valuable grassland. In addition to legal protection, the rehabilitation of habitats and raising awareness of natural assets play an important role in the preservation of protected nature areas.

The project has resulted in the improvement of protected nature areas and habitats, as well as of inanimate protected natural assets, the preservation of Hungarian protected species and species of community importance and the safeguarding of their living environment.

In the project implementation, interventions were carried out in order to protect the habitat of 30 highly protected and 252 protected animal species, and 11 highly protected and 163 protected plant species.

The aim of the development was the rehabilitation of forests, the protection of protected water habitats, the nature protection of particularly important habitats, as well as the nature protection of geological assets.

The locations of project implementation were: Perbál, Piliscsaba, Pilisszentiván, Budapest, Pilisborosjenő, Solymár, Budakeszi, Veresegyház, Pilisszántó, Pilisvörösvár, Csobánka, Pilisszentkereszt, Leányfalu, Szigetmonostor, Pomáz, Pilisszentlászló, Szentendre, Isaszeg, Valkó, Bag, Vácszentlászló, Gödöllő, Galgahévíz, Dány, Domony, Pécel, Dunabogdány, Visegrád, Tahitótfalu, Budaörs, Budakalász.
