Renewed Health Care Institutions in Kapolcs and Vigántpetend 9 July 2010

Two health care centres were opened recently in the Central Transdanubia region, following renovation with EU funding. Between 2007 and 2009, in the framework of the Regional Operational Programme, 269 health care projects were supported with 45.8 billion HUF; 86 projects have already been implemented. The surgeries in Vigántpetend and Kapolcs will provide quality health care not only for local residents, but for Hungarian and foreign guests visiting the popular Valley of Arts Festival.

In the framework of the Regional Operational Programme, the surgery in Vigántpetend was created with 20 million HUF of EU funding.

Prior to the 30-million HUF project, there was only a doctor’s room in the building of the local government, which was not a real surgery. There were no separate men’s and women’s toilets and the waiting room was not big enough either. A home-nursing service was also available here; however, many important tasks could not be performed due to lack of facilities.

In the framework of the project a new 97-square-metre surgery was built, with modern doors and windows, heating system, obstacle-free toilets and a parking area. Although the new building is larger, the operating costs are lower. The modern doors and windows with insulation and the gas heating system are more cost efficient and more environmentally friendly than the old building was, with its obsolete heating system and poor window insulation.

Besides creating the minimum physical requirements, new services have been made available. The home-nursing professionals can now provide physiotherapy, life-style advisory and health massage services in the building. Cancer screenings can be carried out here, and health information talks can also be held.

Vigántpetend is one of the venues for the Valley of Arts Festival. During the festival, visitors have the opportunity to donate blood. Every year a considerable amount of blood was donated during the festival, however, due to poor infrastructure, the location of the blood donation could no longer be ensured this year. The surgery can also provide the obligatory 24-hour health care service during the ten-day festival.

The renovation of the surgery in Kapolcs received EU funding of 13 million HUF. The surgery at Kapolcs utca 2 was renovated, made obstacle-free, and was enhanced with parking facilities and a green area, established using environmentally friendly technologies. The new external wall surface was insulated, the windows and doors replaced, the central heating modernised, internal reconstructions were carried out and the electrical wiring system was modernised; the building was transformed into a modern and environmentally friendly health care institution. In addition, medical equipment was also replaced or renewed.

The surgery is located on the main street, which made it crucial to create an appropriate parking area and garden (with native trees and bushes) to provide a suitable waiting area for patients, especially for children.
