HURO-FEST – full day professional and entertainment programme in the spirit of the Hungarian-Romanian cooperation in Debrecen15 September 2011

The Hungarian-Romanian Cross-Border Cooperation Programme invites guests to enjoy the festive atmosphere and meaningful professional programmes in the centre of Debrecen on 21 September. The open-air event welcomes guests from both sides of the border with a professional conference in the morning and many colourful family activities in the afternoon. The “HURO-Fest” conference is an excellent opportunity for participants to gain an insight into the ongoing and successfully completed projects and also to strengthen existing partnerships. The success of this program is indicated by the altogether 900 applications, including 264 projects already launched, since the source was opened. The total amount of EU funding granted so far accounts for nearly EUR 132 million.

The International Cooperation Programmes provide parties an excellent opportunity to develop and strengthen their economic and social relationships. These partnerships comply with the main objectives of the New Széchenyi Plan, the Hungarian Government’s new economic strategy, mostly aimed at economic growth and job creation.

The organizers of the Debrecen conference mainly expect visitors interested especially in the professional aspects of current and future tenders and partnership opportunities in the framework of the Hungary-Romania Cross Border Cooperation Programme. The organizers will also outline the development opportunities offered by the 5th call for applications announced in August 2011. Delegates of some of the counties concerned will report on the effects cross-border developments had on the lives of these regions, and also the potential lying in cross border co-operation.

Prominent guests of the morning conference include the Representative of the European Territorial Cooperation Department; Balázs Simon, Head of the National Development Agency’s Managing Authority for the International Cooperation Programme; and Gyula Bara, Head of the Romanian National Authority and representative of the Regional Development Ministry of Tourism. The event will also feature representatives of the border area counties eligible for funding (the counties of Hajdú-Bihar Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Csongrád and Békés; as well as Bihar, Szatmár, Arad and Temes). The circle of experts is completed by officials from the relevant ministries.

The professional morning events are followed family programmes with authentic fairground atmosphere. The professional tents will offer further opportunity to gather information and continue professional consultations, while the stage set up in the main square will feature lively entertainment programmes. On the Kossuth Square stage the “Quartet Extravaganza” brass quartet welcomes visitors from 14:00, which will be followed by the performance of dancers from three different villages titled “The cradle of popular culture Elek-Újszentanna-Ottlaka” from 15:00.

The day will be topped by the concert of ‘Persona’ from Timişoara at 16:00 and later the performance of ‘Magashegyi Underground’ at 17:00.
