Successful Tender for Social Integration of Roma 2 January 2012

The New Széchenyi Plan is aimed to integrate disadvantaged social groups, including the employment of the Roma population as a key activity. The National Development Agency shows a good example by hiring one employee of Roma origin within its „Employment of Roma People in Public Administration and Justice” program. The 6,407,912 forint project was supported by the European Union.

The New Széchenyi Plan pays special attention to supporting disadvantaged social groups living in Hungary, including the Roma people. The success of the „Employment of Roma People in Public Administration and Justice” program proves that due professional preparation can make the employment of Roma people a success.

The tender was aimed to fully integrate the persons employed in the work of the institutions that hired them. The invitation promotes that goal in several ways. On the one hand, it provides a special policy environment which encourages integration. On the other hand, it made the contributing employers show a good example by hiring Roma people. Also, it ensures that Roma people are able to take up posts which provide social integration in proportion to their weight in the population.

The National Development Agency hired one person from April 1, 2010 till May 1, 2011. The tender covered all of the Roma employee’s wage costs and statutory contributions for 12 months. The government official will be appointed to serve the National Development Agency for an indefinite period but at least one year after the closing of the program.

With approximately 310 million forints of domestic and EU funding, the New Széchenyi Plan helped altogether 13 different institutions hire Roma employees in line with the tender invitation.

Project ÁROP-2.2.9-10/A-2010-0015 is supported by the European Union, through co-financing provided by the European Social Fund.
