Spa and Thermal Bath in Makó Renovated from New Széchenyi Plan Funding to Create New Jobs2012. február 21.

Friday will see the delivery of the Spa and Thermal Bath in Makó, completed in 26 months with assistance by the Ministry for National Development in spite of a fire in August. Implemented within the New Széchenyi Plan, the HUF 3.6 billion project has enriched the town of Makó with a world-class spa which will directly give work to 100 people.

The development project will contribute to increasing competitiveness and expanding employment in the town and the region. The spa will employ 100 people but this grand project of tourism will indirectly create an additional 400 to 600 jobs in catering, trade and tourism within a few years. The number of guests is expected to considerably increase: according to preliminary estimates, the number of foreign visitors will rise by at least 25%.

The spa was designed by Imre Makovecz, a world-famous architect who won the Kossuth Prize , as one of his last works. Its form features curved cupolas, towering columns and laminated timber roof structures, all characteristic of the buildings of Makovecz. Another reason why the spa has a special atmosphere is the combination of giant wooden surfaces and large glass windows which let in the sunshine.
