Professional workshop held by the National Development Agency in Kaposvár 3 July 2012

Approaching the end of the seven-year European Union development cycle the National Development Agency (NDA) carried out several accelerating measures in the application system, presently providing stranded beneficiaries with practical assistance. At the Kaposvár stage of a series of professional workshops including seven locations seminars were held for the state, municipality and non-profit spheres, and the project owners of the economic sphere of the South Transdanubian Region on opportunities aimed at promoting developments.

A mere one and a half year is left from the European Union development cycle and over HUF 5,000 billion waits to be drawn down for Hungarian projects. That is why already in 2011 the management of NDA recommended significant changes in the application system, initiated more efficiency for the regulatory environment and focused its activity on the acceleration of payments and the management of stopped applications. „The most frequent problems hindering the drawdown of European Union support result from the late arrival of payment claims or the formal errors of applications. In the course of the professional workshop events proposals for the solution of similar problems are given in order to receive as many invoices as possible in the system”, emphasised Zoltán Petykó, President of the National Development Agency.

„27,000 projects have been implemented nationwide since 2006, of which over 4,500 served the purpose of improving the competitiveness of the South Transdanubian Region. During this period nearly HUF 413 billion worth European Union resources flowed in the region. Currently several constructions are still available within the framework of the New Széchenyi Plan: among others on the subject of developing tourism infrastructure in the approximate value of HUF 4.8 billion. The opening of further constructions is also expected, such as for example the development of business accommodations, the establishment of TDM (Tourism Destination Management) organisations or the development of health tourism services”, said Attila Gelencsér, Chairman of the Somogy County General Meeting.

In the past one and a half years nearly 1,400 projects received support in the region in the approximate value of HUF 63 billion via the local development agency, of which almost HUF 5.3 billion was used for tourism developments and nearly HUF 7,9 billion was awarded for transport development. In addition, the enterprises of the region were awarded HUF 6.2 billion worth development resources via the local development agency within the framework of the New Széchenyi Plan.

Large developments such as the reconstruction and extension of the Clinics Centre of the Pécs University, the construction of the Marcali bypass of Main Road number 68, the complex health tourism development of the Kaposvár Swimming Pool and Spa have been implemented in the region by European Union resources. All the supported projects contribute to the development of the region and the improvement of the population’s quality of life.
