EU resources for the disabled 5 July 2012

The objective of the National Development Agency’s document published under the title “Providing disabled persons with accessibility and ensuring anti-discrimination” is to present the toolkit of eliminating obstacles to the domestic applicants.

The National Development Agency is committed to the allocation of all European Union support. The practical manual does not only call attention to the early stage problems of planning the developments, but also serves as guidelines in the entire course of implementation. It is considered a primary aspect that the developments supported from European Union resources should facilitate the issue of social equality and support the life of disabled people.

The Council Regulation (1083/2006) laying down general provisions for the 2007-2013 programming period of the Structural and Cohesion Funds recognises the importance of preventing discrimination and providing access in the establishment of equal opportunities for disabled persons. Such supports are necessary as the total population of the European Union’s 27 member states is nearly 500 million, of which at least 16 percent are disabled. Their situation in the world of work is expressly difficult: while the employment rate of the non-disabled is 68 percent, that of the disabled is only 50 percent.
The model focusing on the disabled is our common responsibility and common interest at the same time. We hope that our nearly six hundred thousand compatriots may receive as much as possible from the resources of the European Union programmes. By improving their situation we can give them the opportunity to contribute to the development of Hungary and enrich our values by exploiting their talents to the fullest.
