4 billion Hungarian Forints for the research-development programs of universities in Central Hungary in the framework of the New Széchenyi Plan29 November 2012

The objective of the developments realized with Hungarian grants is to support the research projects of universities. The call for proposals has been issued with the main objective of strengthening the development-related human resource capacities and the market position of research-development, for the long-term financing of the given areas. The grants may vary between a minimum of 50, and a maximum of 500 million HUF.

The call for applications has been issued with the goal of supporting the research projects operating in the universities with the participation of international, innovative teams. The construction intends to encourage innovative activities in the universities, and thus facilitate the creation of research-development related jobs and the adaptation of the latest international methodological experience in Hungary. The grant contributes to the utilization of the scientific results of the academic sphere in the area of economy and other areas of social life, as well as to the development of the innovational infrastructure. 

Another objective of the call for applications is to promote the international embedding of the Hungarian research, and to ensure that the supported development projects provide possibility for the young researchers and research candidates to participate in international programs.

The call for application serves the research necessary for the development of the priority industrial areas and disciplines, and the key sectors assigned in the New Széchenyi Plan, among others: pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, medical equipment manufacturing and diagnostics, rehabilitation, geothermal and renewable energy, environmental technology, environmental protection, environmental safety, water management, flood protection, mineral water industry, food safety research, automotive industry, road informatics, logistics, laser technology, laser physics, geology, security policy, and research in the Danube region.

In order to achieve the objectives of the call for applications the National Development Agency provides the overall amount of HUF 4 billion from the Research and Technology Innovation Fund. The amount of the non-refundable grants that can be requested is a minimum of 50 million up to 500 million HUF. Applications may be submitted from 29 October 2012 to the date when the budget is exhausted, but not later than 7 February 2013. Scope of applicants: budgetary agencies, chambers, foundations, non-profit organizations and associations.

At the end of 2011 a construction with similar goals was published with the title "Assistance to the basic and targeted basic research projects carried out with international participation" - belonging to the Social Renewal Operational Programme - in the convergence regions. In the six regions the overall amount of the grant scheme was HUF 20 billion, and there were 31 winning applications altogether. The lowest amount granted was HUF 276 million, the highest HUF 895 million. At the beginning of 2012 the "Assistance to the research of progressive infocommunication technologies and provision of related IT experts” call for applications was issued, also in connection with research-development, and that time there were six winning applicants. The overall amount of the grant available for the applicants was HUF 7.2 billion, the lowest HUF 574 million, the highest HUF 1.5 billion.
